JOHANNESBURG - The two suspects who appeared in the Pretoria North Magistrates Court following the brutal murders of community patrol officers in Soshanguve have not been linked with the crimes.

The men made a brief appearance in a sitting closed to the public.

The court ordered that no pictures of the accused be taken pending their identity parade.

Five patrollers were stoned and shot dead on the scene, while another succumbed to his wounds in the hospital.

Four others are recovering in the hospital, while two others have been discharged.

The men, aged 27 and 50, appeared separately as they have not been charged with Saturday’s murder yet.

Spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said: "The 27-year-old is facing charges of being illegal in the country, possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition. The 50-year-old is facing charges of possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition."

The men will be taken through an identity parade and will then return to court next Tuesday.

If they are positively identified, they will be prosecuted jointly and formally charged with murder.
