JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa has bemoaned the rate at which South African nurses are moving to work abroad while the country faces a nursing shortage.
Ramaphosa has been speaking at the Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA)’s 9th Congress, currently taking place at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg.
The three-day conference is set to deliberate on a number of issues affecting nurses in the healthcare sector.
Speaking at the congress, Ramaphosa said government acknowledges the difficulties nurses face in public hospitals.
“You need to discuss how we deal with this spectre of recruitment that is taking place amongst those of your profession to other countries. Is it money?”
President Cyril Ramaphosa said he is waiting to hear what DENOSA will resolve on the main issues facing the nursing sector, namely litigation against them and dealing with undocumented foreign patients. TCG pic.twitter.com/SQ3sgoAAyW
