JOHANNESBURG - Power utility Eskom has warned about an increased risk of load shedding after it lost six generation units within just 12 hours.
On Monday night, the utility indicated that it was likely to implement Stage 2 load shedding, a week after it had been suspended.
While the current power outages have been short and intermittent, Eskom has warned of a higher risk of future and higher stages of load shedding should its system remain constrained.
Eskom spokesperson Daphne Mokwena says the continued reliance on emergency reserves is putting immense strain on the grid.
“Work continues to bring six generation units back online, with one unit already restored. Our teams are closely monitoring the situation, and we will provide further updates as needed.”

Earlier today, Eskom issued an urgent alert about a high risk of loadshedding this evening. While we managed to keep the system stable, it remains constrained and loadshedding may still be implemented at short notice if necessary.
