JOHANNESBURG - Former African National Congress (ANC) spokesperson Pule Mabe returns to the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
He is facing charges of fraud and corruption.
Mabe and six accomplices, including his wife and cousin, are embroiled in a multi-million rand tender scandal emanating from an irregular contract with the Gauteng Agriculture Department.
In 2017, Mabe's company Enviro Mobi allegedly scored a R27 million tender to provide the City of Ekurhuleni with 200 three-wheeler motorbikes.
The seven graft-accused were arrested in October 2024 and released on R30,000 bail each.
The code of conduct for members of Parliament (MPs) states that they are prohibited from conducting business with the State, meaning their companies cannot secure government contracts.
However, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) argues that former Mabe was still an MP when his company won the tender, despite him denying this claim.
Additionally, the State’s affidavit highlights that the company failed to disclose its ties to Mabe when bidding for the tender.
Mabe, however, insisted that he had resigned as an MP when the contracts were awarded and also claimed to have stepped down as the company’s director.
Mabe and his co-accused are set to appear at the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court on Tuesday for the disclosure of the contents of the docket.
