CAPE TOWN - Postbank has confirmed that it’s helped close to 1.4 million social grant beneficiaries to replace their old gold cards with the new black cards to date.
The old South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) gold cards stopped working from midnight last week Thursday.
The entity says it has about 2.8 million beneficiaries.
However, Postbank says all those who have not made the switch can still do so at any of their card replacement sites.
Postbank spokesperson Bongani Diako said beneficiaries can also visit selected Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Pick n Pay, or Boxer stores to do the card swap.
Diako added that those who have not made the card swap will still be paid their grants come the next payment cycle.
"All the beneficiaries that have not collected their cards will be paid their grants with just their IDs at any Post Office branch across the country."
