CAPE TOWN - Jazz lovers have filled the Company Gardens in Cape Town for the inaugural Table Mountain Jazz Festival.

The oldest garden in South Africa played host to the two-day music showcase this weekend.

Among the acts were legendary artists, including Jonathan Butler, Jimmy Dludlu and Peter White.

Close to 5,000 jazz lovers gathered for the first Table Mountain Jazz Festival this weekend.

They said that not even grey skies and the threat of downpours could keep them from seeing their icons on stage.

"Come rain or shine, I was going to be here," one attendee said.

"I go where the jazz goes," another said.

"I’m a jazz freak, I’m here for all the music but especially the local acts," another fan added.

Fans were treated to a mix of local talent and international headline acts.

Grammy-nominated Jonathan Butler said it's always a pleasure performing for local audiences.

"Cape Town is the heartbeat for jazz. Cape Town is the heartthrob for me, it reminds me of all the things I grew up with. As long as this festival unites us, it’s a good thing."

UK music legend Peter White wraps up the two-day event at 10pm on Sunday night.
