CAPE TOWN - Some social grant beneficiaries in Eersteriver in Cape Town have described the Sassa migration process as a huge disappointment.

From Friday, grant recipients who have not switched over from Sassa Gold cards to new Postbank black cards, won’t be able to use their old cards.

However, the entity says it will continue to issue black cards to those who missed yesterday’s card migration deadline to end of June at selected retail stores.

Between now and then, social grant beneficiaries can still go to certain Post Office branches with their ID to access their grant payouts.

The card migration process saw long queues, a system crash, and delayed services.

70-year-old Eric Croy told Eyewitness News that for him the whole process was chaotic.

“We must queue here for a few cents which is totally unnecessary. The reason given for why we should change from yellow to the black card doesn’t make any sense. It’s absolute nonsense," said Croy.

Mamello Giqi said people responsible for the card migration system need to do better.

“It’s not working for us, some of us didn’t go to work and we’re going to lose a day for not going to work, it’s really draining," said Giqi.
