CAPE TOWN - DA leader John Steenhuisen has called for a day of reflection and commitment to action, as the country commemorates Human Rights Day.
69 peaceful protestors were killed by the apartheid police in Sharpeville on this day in 1960, for defying pass laws and demanding the right to live and move freely in the country.
More than 180 others were also injured in the attacks.
DA leader John Steenhuisen said today is day to commemorate those who sacrificed for the sake of future generations.
Steenhuisen added that the future of South Africa depends on the choices we make today.
"At the same time, we must be alive to the threats posed by those who seek to undermine the constitution and reverse the progress we have made. This is why we are in the GNU to defend the constitution, to fight for better governance, to hold the line against those who want to drag this country backwards," said Steenhuisen,
