CAPE TOWN - In the Joshlin Smith trial, the state's star witness ended her testimony in tears earlier this week before the missing girl's aunt took the stand to testify.

Former accused turned state witness Lourentia Lombaard has testified that she witnessed Kelly Smith sell Joshlin to a sangoma for R20 000.

Smith and her co-accused Jacquen Appollis and Stevano van Rhyn are on trial for kidnapping and human trafficking related to Joshlin's disappearance.

Lombaard was in tears as she ended her testimony on Monday after telling the court Kelly Smith told her the person who took Joshlin wanted the child for her eyes and skin.

Smith's sister Mickeyla Daniels later testified that Smith told her Joshlin was still in Saldanha Bay seven days after her disappearance.

Daniels who is a constable at Upington police station said Smith contacted her a few days after Joshlin Smith went missing.

She told the court she questioned Smith about Joshlin's disappearance throughout the week after the child went missing but received vague answers.

Daniels said when she contacted Smith seven days after Joshlin went missing, Smith told her Joshlin was still in Saldanha Bay and that someone wants to sell Joshlin, but they couldn't because the town had become a hotspot.

Daniels told the court during a live social media interview with prominent politician Gayton Mackenzie, Smith told viewers that Daniels in her capacity as a police officer, told Smith that Joshlin was sold for R20 000.

Daniels denied this saying the only information she received about Joshlin was from Smith.
