Joburg motorists urged to stay alert ahead of Cyclist awareness event in Soweto

JOHANNESURG - Joburg motorists in parts of Soweto south of the city are advised to be vigilant of increased cyclist activity as roads will be affected by the Safe cyclists ride awareness event.

The event which will take place on Saturday will be hosted at Thokoza park, Rockvile from 7am until midday.

JMPD said that there will be no road closures on the day however officials will be actively managing traffic around the surrounding areas including Pimville, Orlando, Dube and Chiawelo.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said "the following streets may experience increased traffic conditions during the event, and these are Elias Motsoaledi road, Khumalo street, Chris Hani Road, Klipspruit valley road, Modjajdi street, Vilakazi street and Tsianda street. The safe cycle will cover approximately 30 kilometers, beginning and ending at Thokoza park, participants will follow the specific rout".
