CAPE TOWN - Sassa grant beneficiaries will no longer be able to use the gold card to access their grants.

Thursday was the deadline for recipients to make the swap from the Sassa Gold card to the Postbank Black card.

However, government has indicated that beneficiaries will still be able to get their grants by going to a Post Office.

On Friday there was a long queue at the Sassa offices in Athlone.

While it was the Child grant payout day, many others were in line to make the swap to the Postbank black card.

Some beneficiaries said they were informed that they can still receive their grants, although they’re not sure where to collect it.

“The president said on the news the other day that even though the people didn't finish the cards yet, we’re still going to get paid," said a beneficiary.

Briefing the provincial Standing Committee on Social Development this week, Sassa’s acting regional manager Sibusiso Nhlangothi, said beneficiaries who have not made the swap, can go to Post Offices branches with their ID, to get their money.

He added that they’re waiting on Postbank to provide a list of the Post Office branches where beneficiaries can go.
