JOHANNESBURG - Prosecutors in the attempted murder case against controversial businessman, Edwin Sodi, have failed to convince the Randburg Magistrates Court that the seriousness of his case was reason to keep it open.

His matter was struck off the roll on Thursday after both the State’s witnesses failed to attend.

Sodi was accused of pointing a gun at his estranged wife and a male friend at the couple’s Bryanston home in 2022.

The two then laid a criminal complaint against him but later withdrew from the case, with the court hearing about a settlement agreement on Thursday.

Prosecutor Dinesh Nandikisoor argued that the matter continued despite both the complainants withdrawing from the matter.

Magistrate Hleziphi Mkhasibe refused this request.

"It would be unfair for me towards the accused if I were to do so and would not be serving justice if I were to do so in respect to your request for a postponement for these witnesses to appear in court. Your request is refused."
