Thursday is D-day for SASSA cardholders to swap their gold cards for the new Postbank black cards.
It was uncertain when Postbank's systems would be up and running again.
Meanwhile, outside the centre, beneficiaries who had been queuing since the crack of dawn ventilated their anger at Postbank, with some deciding to abandon the task altogether.
Only two Postbank officials were working at the site on Thursday, to service at least 200 beneficiaries.
Some said they were promised better service with more staff working on deadline day.
Postbank officials on-site asked the beneficiaries with tickets not to leave, optimistic the system would work again soon.
