CAPE TOWN - Long queues, shortage of staff, and slow service are just some of the issues raised by frustrated social grant recipients waiting to complete their SASSA card migration.

Thursday is the deadline for beneficiaries to make the switch from SASSA gold cards to the new Postbank black cards.

From 21 March, recipients won't be able to use their old cards to buy or withdraw money inside stores.

Postbank says it will continue with the card swap until the end of June at selected Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Pick n Pay, Boxer and Spar stores.

Postbank has also confirmed that recipients who are unable to make the card switch on Thursday can access their grants using their ID at Post Office branches.

However, Noloyiso Kaka told Eyewitness News that she’s sceptical about this.

"I'm not sure about the Post Office arrangement. We are so used to our cards where we could withdraw money at retail stores and banks. I've never used the Post Office for my grant payout."

She hopes to still make the cut on Thursday for her new Postbank black card.
