Angry owners had called on the carmaker to fix the problem.
Last year, Hyundai South Africa agreed to review each case individually and address the paint defects accordingly, in some cases covering the cost of a respray, even where the car's warranty had expired.
And now?
Knowler says she is still receiving letters from disgruntled customers.
"It seems they [Hyundai] are not looking too favourably on those people who haven't had their cars checked at a Hyundai dealer for years and years, when maybe the problem would have been picked up earlier and been less expensive to fix."

But Knowler says she has spoken to the head of Hyundai SA, who said they continue to take responsibility for the defect (even though initially, they didn't want to).
"If you're getting pushback, my advice would be, let me know... I'll send an email and it will be sorted."
