JOHANNESBURG - The City of Johannesburg has distanced itself from a social media influencer campaign aimed at portraying Mayor Dada Morero in a good light.

Over the past 24 hours, there have been several posts on X, formerly Twitter, under the hashtag Joburg service delivery.

The posts follow a similar pattern of praising Morero and his administration.

However local X users have noticed that some of the accounts posting are not from Johannesburg and in one instance an influencer refers to Morero as a minister.

Mayoral spokesperson, Chris Vondo, said while the city was aware of the posts, it had nothing to do with them.

"There is nothing like that, you can see that thing is badly done. You can see whoever is doing that thing is just disingenuous to portray the mayor [like that]. The mayor is not a populist, our guy has been open to engagements with the media. He has not shied away on explaining the problems of Johannesburg, so why should he go and do those things? You can even see those hashtags, they are not even hashtags of the city."
