CAPE TOWN - Operations at the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) office in the Cape Town CBD are going well.
Social grant beneficiaries are queueing outside but said the line was moving.
A few people told Eyewitness News they were choosing to have their social grants paid into their bank accounts, rather than swap to the Postbank black card.
Social grant recipients waiting outside the SASSA office in the Cape Town CBD said the lines seemed to be moving at a good pace and there seemed to be no problems.
One beneficiary told Eyewitness News she thought the card-swapping process was not necessary.
"It's totally unnecessary because I mean, especially for the old people. I hear, in other areas like Bontheuwel and that, they went out to the old people, but here by us they don't go. Like we stay here in town, in Bo Kaap, and there's a lot of old ladies that didn't go yet because they can't come - it's either their children are working or they live alone, there's no one to assist them to come here, so there will probably be problems also with that."
The woman said she’s decided to use the direct payment to the bank method as she feels the new card may become problematic.
