CAPE TOWN - Pinelands High School in Cape Town has won the award for the country’s most sustainable school.
It achieved top honours for its holistic approach to sustainability, and ongoing waste management.
The awards ceremony is the culmination of a sustainable schools programme run by a non-profit organisation focused on eco-education.
The school’s sustainability coordinator, Kate Jack, said that they joined the sustainable school's programme four years ago.
"The Earth needs people who will love it and care for it, and school is such a good place to learn about our amazing planet and all the practical ways to look after it. At Pinelands High School, we incorporate education and environmental topics into school lessons and assessments, to staff professional development and post it in assembly notices, we have a biodiversity garden, which is designed to be an outdoor learning space and a nature reserve."
