CAPE TOWN - A defence attorney for one of the alleged human traffickers in the Joshlin Smith trial has continued to try to punch holes in the testimony of the State's star witness.
Joshlin's mother, Kelly Smith, Jacquen Appollis and Stevano van Rhyn are charged with kidnapping and human trafficking for the girl's disappearance.
Joshlin vanished from her Middelpos home in Saldanha Bay more than a year ago.
The trial is being heard in the Western Cape High Court sitting in the Saldanha Bay Multi-purpose Centre.
Defence attorney Fanie Harmse has produced a statement from a detective, in an attempt to discredit State witness Lourencia Lombaard.
Lombaard insists she witnessed the detective question Appollis about stolen chickens from a farm near Middelpos in Saldanha Bay on Sunday, 18 February 2024. A day before Joshlin went missing.
Lombaard has previously testified she overheard Smith tell Appollis she planned to sell Joshlin on the day in question.
Harmse handed the court a statement from the police officer, dated 17 February 2024, again asking Lombaard about the discrepancies related to the date.
Lombaard told the court she was certain the detective visited Appollis, at Smith's shack in Middelpos on 18 February.
The trial continues.
