JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng government has begun the process of searching for a new concessionaire for the Gautrain.
The Bombela Concession Company has been responsible for the operating, maintenance and running of the Gautrain since its inception.
However, the company's 19-year contract with the government ends in 2026.
Gauteng Finance MEC Lebogang Maile said by 2026, the Gautrain will be a fully owned government entity worth R45 billion.
“We will ensure that while the service is maintained post-2026, it remains within the limits of affordability and continues to deliver on the mandate of Gautrain of delivering value for money.”
