JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng government is confident it won’t be impacted by delays in the passing of the national budget.

The provincial budget for the 2025/2026 financial year was presented before the Gauteng legislature on Tuesday.

The budget was initially supposed to be tabled earlier in March, however, it was delayed due to the postponement of the national budget by the finance minister.

Among the budget proposals presented by the finance minister to Parliament was the Division of Revenue Bill which allocates money to provinces.

Gauteng head of Treasury, Ncumisa Mnyani, said legislation allows for the provincial government to spend the money before the bill is passed.

"Section 29 of the PFMA clearly articulates that in the first four months, you can spend 45% of the previous budget and in the other months it's limited to 10% but aggregate can't accede the previous year's budget so the is no point or time government will come to a halt."
