Police Minister Mchunu welcomes IPID probe into KZN top cop Mkhwanazi

JOHANNESBURG - Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has welcomed the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID)'s probe into KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) top boss Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
Mkhwanazi allegedly interfered in the arrest of a correctional services top official in Richard's Bay in 2023.

Addressing the recent controversy in a statement, Mchunu refuted reports that he lodged the complaint against Mkhwanazi.
IPID said a member of the public reported the provincial commissioner.
Police Minister spokesperson Kamogelo Mogotsi said the watchdog has the right to investigate complaints against any police officials.
