JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police are on the lookout for a group of suspects who bombed five FNB automated teller machines (ATMs) at a shopping mall in Hammanskraal, Tshwane.

On Sunday, about 30 individuals stole undisclosed amounts of money from the ATMs and a drop safe in one of the shops.

It is understood that the suspects also robbed two security officers of a firearm and a mobile phone during the incident.

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Mavela Masondo said a shootout erupted when officers arrived at the crime scene.

“A shootout ensued between the police, the private security officers, and the suspects. One of the security officers was shot and wounded. He was then taken to the nearest medical care centre for treatment.”
