JOHANNESBURG  - Police say more arrests are expected in connection with the kidnapping of a Portuguese businessman.

Saturday, law enforcement officers apprehended one suspect after locating the businessman unharmed in Westdene, Johannesburg.

According to investigations, the man went missing earlier this week shortly after dropping off an employee in Johannesburg.

Police spokesperson Amanda van Wyk says a ransom was demanded for the release of the victim.

“Acting on intelligence, the team, comprising members from the national crime intelligence kidnapping team, special task force, Gauteng crime intelligence kidnapping team, crime intelligence cyber security, Soweto Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT), and other stakeholders, identified a location in Westdene and executed a tactical  operation.”
