JOHANNESBURG - Eskom has revealed that infrastructure repairs have been completed at several of its units at the Lethabo power station as part of its maintenance programme to ensure operations continue undisturbed at its biggest power plant.
The electricity minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa was on an oversight visit to the power station in the Free State on Friday, when Eskom provided the minister with an update on the plant's recovery since the failure of its three units earlier this year.
Head of generation at Eskom Bheki Nxumalo said the utility and the teams working at the power plant understand the impact of load shedding not only on residents but on the economy as well.
He added that they have been working around the clock to guarantee the continued operational integrity of the station.
"Some of the units here we have done major refurbishment as I said, were starting the second one now because we have made that commitment that we will not compromise on our environmental projects, and also the reliability of the plant. So when the plants comes back like we have done some of them here at Lethabo," said Nxumalo.
