JOHANNESBURG - With the colder months fast approaching, Eskom has said its looking forward to a more stable winter period because of efforts made to stabilise the power grid.

The utility said the summer period makes it challenging for teams working at the coal fields because of the consistent inclement weather.

Eskom head of generation Bheki Nxumalo said the utility's management has been coming up with strategy to mitigate the obstacles that come with the summer period, which he says have brought significant pressure on stations.

He added that while the colder season sees higher electricity demand, teams manage to work steadily in the winter months.

"I think traditionally winter will have a higher peaks, but the problem in summer like you have seen now since December when its raining every day the whole time, you can imagine if you are working on the coal field or on the ash dam, you are out there, sometimes its thunderstorms, its raining so its not good for the employees as well," said Nxumalo.
