JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa has said that the impact of climate change cannot be ignored as some parts of the country are again battered by floods.

One person died in KwaZulu-Natal this week, adding to the double-digit death toll seen the week before.

The province estimated damage from the severe floods at R3.1 billion, declaring a state of disaster.

The Northwest was also recently affected.

Ramaphosa met with several ministers, deputy ministers, premiers and MEC's in Cape Town on Friday as part of the president's coordinating council.

"We need to focus on those areas and a number of your places are negatively affected by climate change and that we need to keep an eye on,” said Ramaphosa.

Following frustrations about the state of affairs at critical municipalities like Johannesburg, Tshwane and Cape Town, Ramaphosa has again called for better service delivery.

“We need to pay attention about how our cities look...and the service delivery that we are delivering to our people," said Ramaphosa.
