JOHANNESBURG - Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has assured that the Lethabo power station has bounced back strongly after suffering the loss of three units that prompted load shedding.

Ramokgopa visited the station in the Free State on Friday, citing it as one of Eskom's largest power-generating facilities.

The minister assessed the current performance levels at the station in a bid to respond to recent operational challenges.

Lethabo power station, historically one of Eskom's top-performing facilities, has experienced significant performance setbacks in recent weeks.

According to Ramokgopa, the recent breakdown at the power station triggered the return of load shedding, ending a 300-plus day streak of uninterrupted electricity supply.

However, he said the facility had achieved a remarkable recovery.

"I must say that the station has recovered tremendously from the levels it was at about three or four weeks ago."

He said his visit aimed to identify areas of support for Lethabo power station to sustain consistent performance.
