JOHANNESBURG - The Lethabo power station is back online after suffering the loss of three units.

This outage prompted the first bouts of load shedding.

Lethabo power station is one of Eskom's largest power-generating facilities.

Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa visited the power station on Friday to assess its current performance levels and respond to recent operational challenges.

Lethabo power station, historically one of Eskom's top-performing facilities, has experienced significant performance setbacks in recent weeks.

According to Ramokgopa, the recent breakdown at the power station triggered the return of load shedding, ending a 300-plus day streak of uninterrupted electricity supply.

However, he said that the facility had achieved a remarkable recovery.

"I must say that the station has recovered tremendously from the levels it was at about three/four weeks ago."

He said that the aim of Friday’s visit was to identify areas of support for the power station to sustain consistent performance.
