JOHANNESBURG - Preliminary investigations have found no evidence of sabotage or foul play at Eskom's Lethabo power plant after it experienced breakdowns that led to load shedding.

Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has instead attributed recent power cuts to what he’s described as identifiable technical issues.

Ramokgopa was on an oversight visit to the power station in the Free State on Friday.

"We can account for the reasons why we had load shedding on the first of February, why we had load shedding around the 22nd of February and why we had load shedding last weekend. So it has nothing to do with sabotage."

The minister has also assured that efforts were underway to resolve outstanding issues to maintaina  reliable electricity supply.

"So I really want to put it out there, we will not manufacture reasons that don't exist. We take the good with the bad. We performed 300 days plus without load shedding. It is this team that delivered. We are going through a wobble, we're accepting that responsibility. We are the first ones to say: 'We apologise, we are sorry, we have identified where these challenges are and we are addressing those challenges.' I want to put the country at ease."
