JOHANNESBURG - The City of Johannesburg has committed to implementing measures to ensure that every rand is used for its intended purpose.
This follows the approval of an adjusted budget on Thursday, which increased the metro's total revenue to R77 billion.
The African National Congress (ANC)-Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF)-led metro said it was in the process of establishing a budget mitigation plan, focusing on stricter expenditure controls.
The ANC-led coalition government in the city of Johannesburg said it is focused on improving the metro's finances and enhancing the effective use of state funds.

The city has launched what it calls a financial recovery plan, aimed at strengthening the long-term financial stability of the city.
However, Democratic Alliance (DA) councillor Chris Santana said that only time would reveal how committed the governing coalition truly is.
“Unfortunately, with all this compounding and already financially stretched citizens of Johannesburg and South Africa, I do not believe this budget will be funded. Not this one, not the next one. In good faith, seeing is believing.”
The DA voted against the city’s newly passed adjustment budget, saying it doesn’t inspire confidence.
