DURBAN - The family of a man from Umlazi, linked to the murder of his own mother says it wants him to be locked behind bars for good.

Sibusiso Radebe appeared in the Umlazi Magistrates Court in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) on a murder charge on Wednesday.

He is accused of killing his mother who was found with her throat slit.

The family said it wants justice for the 79-year-old woman.

“As the family, we want justice and for him to be punish for this crime, and he would be in danger if he gets released on bail, because the community is also angered by this, so are we. We don’t even know that to say.”

Delani Radebe, the brother to the accused, said justice must prevail in the brutal murder case.

The family said for years now, it had been subjected to all sorts of violence and abuse at the hands of the accused.

Community members in the area held a picket outside court on Wednesday, demanding he be denied bail.

Delani said the family fears for its safety.

“If he could do this his own mother we're [not] safe.”

The accused is expected to return to court next Wednesday for a formal bail application.
