CAPE TOWN - With just two months left of the fire season in Cape Town, the city’s firefighting resources have not dwindled.

The city’s fire and rescue services department has told EWN it has backup resources.

This includes extra firefighters and equipment which is automatically released once a fire reaches a certain response trigger or jumps a fire line.

MMC for Safety and Security, JP Smith, said that support from residents was also crucial.

"The City of Cape Town’s fire & rescue service has a mandate to serve the citizens of this city and preserve life and property at all costs. The community can assist by understanding our mandate, allowing us to perform our duties and maintaining a supportive stance in reinforcing our role to others. In addition, capable and interested persons within the community can sign up to become reservists as well as join volunteer programmes in support of disaster management."
