JOHANNESBURG - City Power has reported a 36% decrease in cable theft and vandalism of their infrastructure between 2024 and 2025.

This has been attributed to an intelligence-driven strategy that the utility implemented.

Briefing on the state of affairs at City Power, Sergeant Thela, said that they had also made use of technology to combat these crimes.

He added that 279 criminals were arrested for targeting their infrastructure.

Thela said that the intelligence team focused on corruption syndicates.

"From the period of July 2024 to February 2025, the number was standing at 750, whereas in the previous year from the first of July 2023 to February 2024, the numbers were standing at 1,164."
