KwZulu-Natal police are urging businesses to come up with a strict cashless system as way to curb robberies.
On Tuesday, KZN police management met with members of the business sector in Umhlanga, north of Durban.
The aim of the meeting was to address the crimes affecting businesses.
This includes cash-in-transit heists, kidnapping of business owners and looting of trucks, among others.
Various business owners in the province met KZN police top brass to discuss ways to work together against crime.
Business owners aired their views about crime affecting their businesses.
Businessman Moses Tembe says all efforts are needed in this regard.
“We are of the view that all hands have got to be on deck in tackling crime.”
KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and all three of his deputies were present at the meeting.
He said the availability of cash at a business premises is one of the problems..
“They are dealing with cash most of the time and that is why we are trying to preach here to businesses that they must start introducing a cashless society that will remove the cash in transit heists or kidnappings that are happening.”
Mkhwanazi added that with cashless transactions, police would be able to fast-track financial investigations.
