CAPE TOWN - A new witness in the trial related to missing girl Joshlin Smith has testified that Kelly Smith didn't arrive for a cleaning job as arranged on the day her daughter was reported missing.
Smith, Jacquen Appollis and Stevano van Rhyn are accused of selling Joshlin to an unknown woman in February 2024.
The accused face charges of kidnapping and human trafficking in the Western Cape High Court sitting at the Saldanha Bay multi-purpose centre.
State witness Kelly Zeeger has told the court Smith would do chores for her at her home in Saldanha Bay.
Zeeger, whose mother Carlien Zeeger testified on Monday, said Smith agreed to clean her house on 19 February 2025, he same day Joshlin went missing.
The arrangement to clean Zeeger's home was confirmed the day before after she bought Smith groceries worth more than R500.
Zeeger told the court when police visited her home to take her statement after Joshlin's disappearance, she handed over a copy of CCTV footage from a security camera in her home.
When they viewed the recording, the surveillance footage showed no sign of Smith cleaning her home on the day her daughter disappeared.
The trial continues.
