KZN businesses call on police to urgently address robberies, truck hijackings & kidnappings

DURBAN - Businesses in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) have called on the police to address crime in the sector.

The call comes after several truck hijackings in parts of the province.

There is also a growing concern about the kidnapping of business owners.

Various chambers of businesses and business groups in KZN said business robberies, especially in the Amaoti area of Durban, required urgent police intervention.

Members of the business sector said their trucks were again being looted on some routes.

Provincial police boss, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, assured business owners that their safety was a priority.

"So we were just giving feedback on that and also indicated to them the strategies we have as the SAPS in order to respond and to also prevent the crime that is happening in their areas, how we're responding to incidents that are happening in construction, among others."

Mkhwanazi said there were also plans to work with registered security companies in this regard.
