JOHANNESBURG - The Health Department has committed to improving its management following a report by the Health Ombudsman on the treatment of broadcaster, Tom London, at the Helen Joseph Hospital.

Last year, London, whose real name is Thomas Holmes, made a viral video alleging poor treatment at the health facility.

The ombud released an investigation on Monday into Holmes’ allegations, finding no substance to allegations that he received poor clinical care.

However, the ombud said there was truth to Holmes’ complaints related to poor infrastructure at the hospital.

Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi has welcomed the ombud’s findings.

"I knew that immediately after the video and Gauteng (health) department announced they are going to rush there but I said the appropriate structure to investigate is the ombud because if you investigate yourselves, you leave the ugly part aside and I said no, Gauteng can't investigate itself and someone else must come, who unveiled the whole truth and I am happy it happened that way."
