JOHANNESBURG - There are calls for the removal of Ekurhuleni Mayor Doctor Xhakaza from the city's highest office, following a proposal for a motion of no confidence.
Eyewitness News has reliably learned that two minority organisations- the Independent Citizen Movement (ICM) and the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) are demanding Xhakaza's resignation.
They have accused the mayor of mishandling the city's finances, neglecting council orders, and failing to properly fulfill his duties.
The City of Ekurhuleni's former chief operating officer, Dr Joe Mojapelo, a member of the ICM, is pushing for the removal of African National Congress (ANC)'s Xhakaza.
In a letter sent to the office of the speaker, Mojapelo cites the city's R2 billion revenue shortfalls as the primary reason Xhakaza should no longer hold office.

He also claims that under Xhakaza's leadership, the city has consistently failed to pay service providers on time.
However, Xhakaza maintains that he is not threatened by attempts to remove him.
"A one-man party mobilised another two-man party in council. When they want to be seen, they do these types of theatrics."
Xhakaza, who was elected with the backing of the ANC and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has served as mayor for almost a year.
