JOHANNESBURG - The Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) Party is set to march to the national treasury's offices in Pretoria on Monday to demonstrate against the proposed increase in Value-Added Tax(VAT).
Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana is scheduled to present his delayed budget speech on Wednesday after the first attempt stalled due to disputes within the Government of National Unity (GNU).
This is after some parties in the multi-party coalition government rejected Godongwana's plan to increase Value-Added Tax by two percentage points.
MK Party member in Tshwane Abel Tau said their march to Treasury headquarters will hopefully convince the minister to abandon any tax increase.
"We believe that any form of VAT increase is going to further deepen the misery of our people who are predominantly poor in this economy and it has huge adverse effects when it comes to households."
