JOHANNESBURG - Eskom has suspended load shedding.
The power utility made the announcement on Sunday morning, following the recovery and replenishment of sufficient emergency reserves.
South Africans were plunged into stage three load shedding on Friday afternoon.
The power utility said in the past 44 hours, coal operations at Kusile power station were at optimal levels, with all units that were offline from Friday now back in service.
Spokesperson Daphne Mokwena said efforts to restore more capacity were ongoing.
“The team is working diligently to restore 4,091 megawatts back to service by Monday. We maintain our guidance that load shedding is largely behind us due to structural improvements in the generation fleet. While baseload capacity remains constrained, our generation recovery plan is addressing this challenge.”
