International Women’s Day: SADSAWU holds picket over domestic workers’ demands

CAPE TOWN - Saturday marks International Women’s Day.   

The United Nations (UN) theme for 2025 is, For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.

On Saturday, the South African Domestic Service and Allied Workers Union (SADSAWU) carried out a peaceful picket in Salt River, Cape Town.  

The aim was to highlight the demands of those who belong to the union.  

The general secretary at SADSAWU, Gloria Kente, said the groups of women that they represent are the most marginalised and exploited workers.  
 
“On this International Women’s Day, the key demands of SADSAWU on this day is that we want the dignity at the workplace of domestic workers, also the safety and protection of the domestic workers, of the migrant workers, of the informal workers, disabled women, we want to take that home, also, the fair pay and social protection of those women that are working as domestic workers.”
