Sixty-five percent of the 2,300 rape cases reported in the province were sampled to provide an indication of the places of occurrence for most of the rape incidents.

Three hundred and fifty-three of them took place in public areas like streets, parks, and parking areas.

Twenty-one occurred in educational institutions such as schools, daycare facilities, and universities.

Provincial crime registrar Brigadier Mpho Chakalane said, "The most incidents are happening in the residence of perpetrators, family place or neighbours with 960 counts and leisure place with 29."

Dumping sites, tuck shops, entertainment facilities, and public transport areas were also used in the commission of these crimes.
