JOHANNESBURG - There is a proposal to establish a presidential working group to deal with the City of Johannesburg service delivery issues. 

President Cyril Ramaphosa brought this to light on Friday. 

He says the working group will accelerate the delivery of services in the city of gold.

Ramaphosa has been in meetings with the city and Gauteng management over the last two days to restore Johannesburg to its former glory.

He says the presidential working group will stabilise operations.

“We are proposing the establishment of the presidential Johannesburg working group. What this means is that the situation here in Johannesburg has led you to invite the president into your council chamber. I am now here,” said the first citizen.

Joburg Mayor Dada Morero has responded to Ramaphosa, who expressed disappointment with conditions in the city on Thursday.

 

He says his government will not disappoint the president any further - as concerns mount over the poor state of the city.

 

Ramaphosa and his Cabinet are meeting the City of Joburg’s leadership at the municipality’s headquarters in Braamfontein on Friday.

 

Addressing the meeting, Morero said efforts to restore the city are underway.

 

“We will not disappoint you any further. As the people of Johannesburg, we are ready to host the G20 Summit. Johannesburg is the gateway to Africa and the rest of the world.”
