JOHANNESBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa and his Cabinet will take a deeper look at issues plaguing millions of Johannesburg residents.

The second day of the national government’s meeting with the City of Johannesburg kicks off at the city council on Friday morning.

The meeting aims to address Johannesburg’s service delivery challenges through inter-governmental engagements.

During the first leg of the meeting on Thursday, Ramaphosa expressed disappointment over the poor state of the city.

Ramaphosa was blunt in his message to the City of Johannesburg, urging it to get its house in order before the G20 summit in November.

He expressed frustration over the city’s poor state, emphasising that it needs to be addressed immediately.

On Friday, Ramaphosa’s Cabinet is expected to meet with Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero and his executive committee to discuss the city’s service delivery challenges.

While the city is under scrutiny, Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi said government is working on improving conditions.

“We must build a better Gauteng for all our citizens, and in building a better Gauteng for all our citizens, if we can’t tackle all those 13 issues that we have, then no one will benefit.”

On Thursday, Lesufi apologised to the president for the city’s appalling conditions.
