JOHANNESBURG - National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola confirmed that popular businessman Sphamandla Mabonga was one of the victims who was killed at the Sandton shooting.

On Thursday night, an altercation broke out in Solo restaurant that claimed the lives of the businessman and his two bodyguards.

Four other victims were injured in the crossfire.

It is understood that the businessman was previously banned from entering the establishment.

He was also in obstruction of the enterprise's policy of no firearms when he tried to gain access to the restaurant with his heavily armed guards.

Masemola said that Mabonga was arrested for a similar case in the past.

"This figure, he was out on bail for such similar cases of attempted murder in some of those clubs. There are a number of cases that he was out on bail for that. So, as you know, we arrest, we do our best to oppose bail, but at the end of the day, we cannot guarantee we keep someone inside."
