CAPE TOWN - National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola has confirmed that a cache of firearms, drugs and explosives found at Cape Town storage facilities this week belongs to a Cape Town gang.
During a raid at storage facilities in Bellville-South and Stikland on Monday, police found 26 illegal firearms, including assault rifles, machine guns, pistols, hand grenades and drugs.
Marwaan Alexander and Rushaan de Villiers were arrested and appeared in the Bellville Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
Their case has been postponed to next week Wednesday for bail information and a possible bail application.
Masemola said that the recent success sent out a strong message that police were on the heels of gangs in the Cape.
"As police, here again we have hit the backbone of the gangs because this confiscation is related to one of the gangs in this province."
