JOHANNESBURG - Following the liquidation of his popular shoe brand, Drip Footwear, businessman Lekau Sehoana has returned with a new label, Drip Sportif, calling it a "rebirth".
Drip Footwear was liquidated on 2 September 2024 following a Johannesburg High Court ruling.
Sehoana is also currently involved in a protracted divorce battle with his estranged wife, Lebogang, who is demanding a "fair settlement", citing that she was co-owner of Drip Footwear.
The entrepreneur reflected on the past five challenging months on X.
"After our liquidation, I had to attend commission inquiries, my bank accounts were frozen and assets were attached," he wrote.
"Accountants, lawyers, auditors, and staff were subpoenaed. I refused to let the crisis take over my life and declined interviews during that time. I didn’t want to be the face of the crisis and give it more attention."
He further noted that the experience gained can never be taught in any university.
"I went through it firsthand and learned many lessons. It prompted me to reflect, plan, and approach my comeback differently."
On 27 February, Sehoana launched Drip Sportif at all TAPE stores, marking the beginning of their new relationship.
"What we’re doing differently is building with other retailers and distributors. We’re focusing on AI and online platforms. We’re back to compete and rebuild. There’s so much potential in South African sneaker brands in the sports space, and we want to close those gaps," he concluded.
