JOHANNESBURG - The City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality has received a court order giving the greenlight to demolish two bad buildings in the capital’s inner city.

The order from the Gauteng High Court comes after property owner George Asaba failed to submit building plans for his two complexes on Luttig Street.

The court said the buildings are a health hazard and pose a danger to the people living in them.

The chairperson of Tshwane’s Bad Building Committee, Kholofelo Morodi, has welcomed the ruling as a positive step towards the municipality’s goal of dealing with hijacked and dilapidated buildings in the city.

“These structures were erected by one George Asaba, who built them in violation of the National Building Regulations and Building Standards Act, and did not comply with the zoning requirements of the property.”
