JOHANNESBURG -The City of Joburg has been told to get its house in order ahead of the G20 summit scheduled to take place in the city later this year.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged the Gauteng government and the municipality to ensure the city is presentable.

He was speaking at the Joburg City Council in Braamfontein on Thursday before he met with mayor Dada Morero and Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi.

Ramaphosa's visit is aimed at addressing the many service delivery challenges in the city.

Ramaphosa concluded his speech at the City of Joburg's headquarters by detailing his unhappiness with the state of the metro.

He said the city should act with speed to ensure the metro is in good condition before the G20 summit in November.

"We are going to be getting visitors throughout the year. Let us make our province and our country presentable, as we do in African traditions; when visitors come we ensure that our homes are presentable."

Earlier this week, Morero faced public backlash after stating that his government would focus on cleaning up routes to be used for the G20 summit.
